George Carwardine realised this when he designed the original Anglepoise lamp which incorporated a spring system based on the same constant tension principle of human muscles. This allowed the light to be constantly repositioned because of its infinite flexibility. No matter how stunning a bathroom looks, if it is not functional it has failed in its primary goal.
